5 Tips For Working From Home

Working from home can be difficult for some people, with daily routine completely changing compared to working in the office. CLC Venues & Events is here to help, and give you some top tips on how to work from home productively.  When you’re working from home it’s easy to become your own worst enemy. Isolated from co-workers, the social benefits of the office workplace can seem to disappear, and with that, the motivation to get work done as there is no one watching over you work! So how can we encourage ourselves to achieve our best work when we are left to our own devices? Here’s what our team do.

Rise & Shine

Stick to your normal morning routine. Wake up, get washed and changed into actual clothes (no, pyjamas don’t count!), have your cup of coffee and get ready to start your day. Just because you are working from home doesn’t mean you can get up 1 minute before you should be logging in to your computer, still half asleep. The time to wake yourself up and make yourself feel ready to work in the morning is really important as to how the rest of your day will fall into place. If you stick to your morning routine, you are less likely to get distracted by the small tasks such as brushing your teeth later on in the day!

Make A To-Do List

What do you want to get done today and by when? One really useful tip I have gained since working from home has been making these lists. I like to think myself as a list-making person anyway (I have lists everywhere, even lists in my lists!), but a key to do list which you base your daily activities on is something I believe essential when working from home. Schedule in your breaks, exercise and lunch. Work your tasks around what times you are most productive, whether that be first thing in the morning or the first thing after your lunch break. Structure in your day like you would when you are in the office, what works best for you at work and how can you apply that from home? Plus, satisfaction points for ticking everything off your list at the end of the day is unbeatable!

Create Your Workspace

Just because you aren’t in the office doesn’t mean you can’t be in the office…make your work space at home! An important step to ensuring you are productive working from home is to create a separate space for work only. The moment work starts to mix in to your relaxing space, it can be hard to separate the both – whether that be work eating its way into your personal time, or personal time taking far too much time over work. Dedicate a specific space to work only.

Make Use Of Technology

There are some great pieces of technology that can help us stay connected with others. Meetings, conference calls and catch-ups with colleagues can still happen from your own home. This is especially important to communicate with your team-mates on what your aims are, ideas and brainstorming. Your colleagues are there to help you and you to them, if you think anyone might be feeling isolated, give them a call. Check out Microsoft Teams, Hopin and Zoom.

Mind Body & Soul

Being stuck in your house can have a negative impact on your positivity and mental health. Take some time out of your day to work in exercise, and perhaps some form of mindfulness or meditation. Taking time to focus on your own personal wellbeing can make all the difference to your work. Why not try: The Mindfulness App, Headspace or Calm.
