Behind-the-Scenes with Ellie

We've loved sharing our thoughts and a 'behind-the-scenes' look at our CLC Venues & Events Team. This week, we asked our brilliant Commercial Events Coordinator Ellie about her experience of virtual/hybrid events and working from home.

FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING FROM HOME?

There are two companions who I love to chat to all day apart from Kallie and Hannah – my border terriers!  Having ‘office pets’, has definitely been my favourite aspect of working from home. My dogs are a great excuse to get out of the house on my lunch break and take in some fresh air to break up my day.

MOST EXCITING HYBRID EVENT YOU ATTENDED DURING LOCKDOWN?

When Cheltenham Literature Festival returned in October, I had never been more excited to attend an event. A huge fan of the festivals, the Literature Festival has always been a personal favourite. I managed to attend 3 events in person as part of their hybrid festival in the Town Hall and Everyman. When I sat in my seat at the first event I attended, I was over the moon.

BEST ONLINE OR HYBRID PLATFORM YOU USED AS AN ATTENDEE?

Microsoft Teams always goes down a treat. I love the chat and call features and the ‘teams’ features. It’s a fantastic space for collaborating in a group project.  I’m also a fan of an Instagram this year. Instagram has stepped up their game introducing more features to the app to encourage video content. IGTV, Reels and Instagram Live have been three interests to me this year as an attendee and creator.

EVENT YOU HAVE MISSED THE MOST THIS YEAR?

I can honestly say that I’ve missed every event that was planned for this year. Joining the team in October 2019, I was looking forward to being part of the event process from start to finish for some large scale events that we were planning in the Summer. Of course, disappointingly we were unable to run these. I’m also a huge romantic who absolutely loves everything wedding. After building up special relationships with some of our wedding couples for this year, it was very sad to see them through the process of postponing their special days. However, when the postponed events do return I’m sure they will be much more exciting after a long year of anticipation.

TOP TIP FOR WORKING FROM HOME AND/OR LOCKDOWN LIFE?

Get outside for some fresh air each day. Feeling the sun, wind, or rain on your face makes all the difference to breaking up your day. I don’t even have to take a long walk if I don’t have the time, especially if it’s chilly outside. I like to get out of the house once a day to clear my mind and focus on nature. I love this time of year, seeing the frost on the floor, the fog in the fields and hearing the birds chirping - it really does give me a serotonin boost.

CLC Venues & Events will be enjoying their mince pies and turkey sandwiches from Thursday 24th December - Sunday 3rd January 2021. We are looking forward to hearing about your event plans after the Christmas break.
